After a terminal cancer diagnosis, Nursing student Jimena Malta Zuniga threw herself into her studies to better understand her illness and to support others. She recalled doing homework during chemotherapy and the empathy and flexibility of faculty members, which helped keep her going.泭She hopes to become a pediatric oncology nurse, working with kids during their most difficult times.泭

Psychology major Gabriel Trujillo never dreamed of attending an out-of-state conference, much less presenting at one. Encouraged by his professor, he presented at two of psychologys most prestigious conferences with support from the Student Travel Program fund. Biochemistry student Zoe Wardalways knew she wanted to be a researcher. When she joined Chemistry泭Professor Andrew泭J.泭詁棗堯紳硃鳥s泭research lab, she set an ambitious goal of developing a groundbreaking cancer-screening test and she achieved it. She helped develop a rapid test for HPVthat泭requires only a drop of blood, potentially saving many lives.泭

Elliot Knight never thought 堯梗d own a brewery. Originally from Scotland, Knight is enrolled in the Brewery Operations program and is also a co-owner and head brewer of BrewDog Denver, where he features beers crafted by his fellow classmates. The partnership blossomed alongside his mentorship with lecturer Bernardo Alatorre, whose three decades of fermentation science and industry experience helps students such as Knight build the plane while flying it.泭

After joining the Army, Liberian refugee Emanuel Walker applied to the Green to Gold program, which allows soldiers to earn their degrees while attaining officers rank. With multiple universities to choose from, Walker selected MSU浴envers Computer Information Systems program. 91做厙 has consistently gone above and beyond to support me not just academically, but personally, Walker said. 晨梗s since tested his way into Army intelligence and joined the militarys Cyber Center of Excellence.

After numerous setbacks, Maya Ries returned to college and became the fastest hurdler in 91做厙 history. The Communication Design student broke the school record indoors four times and the outdoor mark three times in 2022. With her early uneasiness about returning to school behind her, Ries is looking forward to running at Nationals and a career in graphic design.泭泭泭
