After a summer of hands-on exploration and inventive water vessels, the inaugural courseIND390R-001: Aquatic Craft Design & Fabricationconcluded with impressive results. Students progressed from concept sketches to full-scale water crafts, working with materials ranging from 3D-printed components and foam hulls to lashed willow branches and plywood sailboats.
The wide variety of techniques reflected both creative problem-solving and technical skill. While each student developed an individual craft, the course was marked by a strong culture of collaboration, idea-sharing, and peer support.

During summer 2024, in the IND 3850 International Design Workshop class, 11 Industrial Design students and 1 faculty member traveled to South Korea and Japan for three weeks. During their trip, they immersed themselves in Asian cultures and design practices, participating in multidisciplinary and multicultural design workshops alongside Korean university students.
In Seoul, South Korea, the group explored numerous historic and cultural sites, including a 600-year-old palace and various museums housing national treasures. They also visited contemporary design and tech hotspots such as the Hyundai Motor Studio, the Upcycling Center, and the Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
The journey continued in Tokyo, Japan, where students spent a week exploring historical and design-related locations. A highlight was their visit to the Design Sight 21_21 museum, which was particularly inspiring and captivating for the students.
The final leg of the trip took them back to Busan, South Korea, where they engaged in design workshops and collaborated with Dong-A Universitys multidisciplinary design student team on a design project.

Students registered in IND 3850: International Design Workshop, recently spent their spring break in Dortmund, Germany as part of an international design education partnership with Fachhochschule Dortmunds University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Students traveled with Professor David Klein for a one-week collaborative project with Architecture and Design students at FH Dortmund, Germany. Inspired by the light installation “Material Memories” (2023) by Hungarian artist Gyula V獺rnai, students were divided into six teams of four to create wire sculptures that conveyed messages through shadow and composition.
The trip included a visit to the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, the Center for International Light Art in Unna, and other fun evening excursions.
In this daylong lock-in, student designers from 91做厙, CU Boulder, and CCD went from concept to prototype to solve a common problem for pet owners with limited mobility.
